not to be dramatic, but

It stopped vacuuming

I've owned a Draeme L10s Ultra since 2023. I'm quite happy with it. It's running Valetudo which is a lovely piece of software that is working well for me and that I've managed to spread to another user.

Unfortunately, on Friday, the vacuum stopped vacuuming. What does that mean? Once I got over the emotional turmoil of it not working, I investigated. The robot still wandered around - the brushes still spun, it just got quiet. Reddit didn't give any useful advice, but it got me to look at it as an item that I owned rather than a device that I passively consumed. So I decided I just needed to replace the vacuum motor, and began on that. Youtube was helpful in providing disassembly instructions, and I got it apart in an hour or so. I was a bit scared I wouldn't remember how to put it all back together, and, had it sat for a week, I might not have. But, Amazon was able to make a new motor appear in my building within 2 days, and it fit!

Reassembly was simpler than disassembly, and after all that, it sucks.

Lesson learned: Clean the air filter. There was a thick layer of dust collected on the filter, and it doesn't take much imagination to figure that this led to premature failure of the motor.

I was, briefly excited for the opportunity to get a new Eureka, model that is only recently supported by Valetudo, and has a much more powerful vacuum, but in the end I'm happy to see that I'm back in business for $30 and a bit of my time.

Of course, there was one screw left over at the end, so I've taped it to the body in a place that if I need to disassemble it again, the screw can be returned to it's home.
